Years ago, I was thinking about the 3rd Step, when I received a God download picture to help me understand.
I was standing in a very muddy road. It was raining, cold and I was miserable. I was behind a wooden cart trying to push it forward. It was the kind of cart used by farmers to haul hay, corn, sacks of flour and other necessities. It was about 6’ by 6’ with big wheels. It had 2 stays that were used to tie an ox, a horse or a donkey to while the farmer walked along side holding the lead.
As I pushed, the stays dug deeper into the mud, but I kept pushing. Insanity. No way could I get the cart to move that way. My way was not working.
Then off to my right, Jesus came walking up to my side. I looked down and his feet in His sandals were muddy as was the hem of His robe. He was not walking on the mud but was in it as I was. My tennis shoes, socks and pant cuffs were covered in mud also.
“Would you like some help, He asked?”
“Yes please, I responded.” I was thinking He was going to push like I was. Instead, He walked around the cart to the front, beckoned me to follow, then pushed the cart backwards. The stays pulled up out of the mud. He took one stay, showed me how to hold the other one, then we walked the cart forward together.
My way or His way. He offers, but up to me to realize I am failing trying to do it my way and then ask for help.
Choices….
