When we find ourselves overwhelmed by a person, an event, or a circumstance a question to ask would be “what am I afraid of?” The state of powerlessness causes anxiety. Naturally. Taking an inventory of just what is it that is causing distress might lead to a new understanding of our needs.
For example:
When we are sick and can’t function well, the fear might be that we would get so sick we can’t work and then we would get fired and then….
When I don’t hear from them, have to wait and not know what is going on, I feel abandoned and not cared about just like when I was a kid, and my parents were…..
When…. Then…..??
Take an inventory and share with a trusted person. Our fears can teach us something about ourselves that need attention. By sharing, the emotional impact is lessened. And take to God and ask for more clarity and healing from the trauma pain of the past wounds.
