Cowboys use lassos to capture animals they need to control to keep them safe. The animal and the cowboy both need safety. They are tied together by the lasso, interacting and influencing each other.
We use emotional lassos to contol others. Anger, judging, and rejection are some of the negative emotions we throw over others to control them to have a sense – although false – of safety. But then we are tied together by these negative emotions.
Instead, drop your lasso and ask Jesus to give you His lasso of forgiveness to throw over the offending person. Your feeble attempt to forgive is inadequate. Only His forgiveness will work. When you give the other person His forgiveness, then and only then are you both free.
